Fantan Mojah, born Owen Moncrieffe on August 5, 1976, in White Hill, St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, passed away on July 14, 2026, leaving behind a remarkable legacy of roots reggae, Rastafarian spirituality, and inspirational music. Reports indicate he died at the age of 49 after complications related to a heart condition.
Fantan Mojah's musical journey began with humble roots. To gain experience, he worked with a traveling sound system, performing during soundchecks while refining his unique vocal style. In his early years, he performed under the name Mad Killer, inspired by dancehall icon Bounty Killer. After embracing the Rastafarian faith, his music shifted toward uplifting and conscious themes. Encouraged by reggae legend Capleton, he adopted the name Fantan Mojah—a name that would become synonymous with positive messages, righteousness, and cultural pride.
With timeless songs such as Hail the King, Rasta Got Soul, Stronger, Corruption, and Hungry, Fantan Mojah inspired reggae lovers across Jamaica, Europe, Africa, and beyond. His music promoted faith, resilience, justice, and hope, earning him a permanent place among the great voices of modern roots reggae.
